Endless OS 3.6.0 Released, which is based on the forthcoming stable release of Debian “buster”

The Endless development team have proudly announced the new release of Endless OS 3.6.0 on 10 June, 2019. It is identical to 3.6.0~beta2.

Endless OS is based on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution, which is featuring a streamlined and simplified desktop environment forked from GNOME.

This release is based on the upcoming stable release of Debian “buster”. It is featuring GNOME 3.32, and Linux kernel 5.0.

This brings new features, performance improvements, hardware support and bug fixes.

It includes Podman 28, is a command-line tool which is broadly compatible with the Docker 3 command-line interface.

It includes a new version of the Flatpak app distribution system with a new performance improvement, developed by Endless and Red Hat, which allows the apps to be installed and upgraded without copying a file into different location on the disk.

Endless companion app support has been removed from Endless OS. They are planning to bring it back in a future release, as they are currently focusing other area of Endless.

Reduced boot flicker on Intel graphics. The boot process will appear a little smoother than before.

Updated Wacom graphics tablet support.

Desktop accessible issue has been fixed. Desktop icons faded out and unusable until you click “Show Desktop”. It’s happened in the past releases, with no applications open, closing the laptop lid, opening the lid again, and unlocking the screen, which leads to face this issue.

Known Issues:

Right-clicking the desktop and clicking Add App does nothing. You can add apps to the desktop by opening the App Center, browsing to the app, and clicking Add to Desktop.
