Feren OS July 2019 Snapshot has been released, which adds minor Changes and Improvements


Feren OS July 2019 Snapshot has been released on 13-July-2019 after 3 months of development. It offers 64 Bit Architecture and the 32 Bit Architecture.

Feren OS is desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on Linux Mint’s main edition.

This release comes with a set of minor changes and improvements over the April 2019 Snapshot.

Added a new set of Unsplash wallpapers, which looks beautiful and it’s change the Feren OS default look and feel.

Inspire Icon Set got a huge update that add some small tweaks to its structuring, and change a few icons in Cinnamon.

  • The Inspire icon set now has a complete set of icons for all the pages of System Settings in Feren OS Next.
  • A fix for the colouring of symbol icons (or ‘symbolic’ icons) in Plasma when the icon set is used.

Feren OS developer had deleted the original package signing keys for the Feren OS Repositories by accident. So, the old signing keys had to be replaced with new ones.

When you perform the upgrade, you might end up with ‘NO_PUBKEY’ errors on APT Package List Updates.

If so, run the following command to fix it.

$ sudo rm -f /usr/share/keyrings/feren-os.key

$ sudo wget https://gitlab.com/feren-os/feren-repositories/raw/master/repositories/public.key -O /usr/share/keyrings/feren-os.key

$ sudo /usr/bin/apt-key --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/feren-os.gpg add /usr/share/keyrings/feren-os.key

$ sudo apt update

Added a New Boot Screen which is based on ‘Breeze’ Plymouth Theme that KDE neon uses by default. The developer has redesigned completely because of the Feren OS Next project.

Changes on Feren OS Next:

Plasma 5.16 and changes to the login screen and lock screen.

Cupertino layout has been updated slightly that include USwitcher in place of Simple Menu on the top panel as well as a shortcut on the dock to launch Application Dashboard, the full-screen applications launcher.

Added official Feren OS Light Themes in Plasma desktop. Also, in this snapshot Feren OS Next has officially hit Beta status.

How Update to the July 2019 Snapshot?

As always, it’s simple to update to the July 2019 Snapshot. Just run the following commands on your terminal.

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade

Alternatively, you can perform the upgrade through GUI by following the below steps.

Navigate to the Update Manager >> hit Refresh >> Install any updates are available.
