gNewSense is a Linux distribution based on Debian, and developed with sponsorship from the Free Software Foundation.
It’s bundled only with free software and doesn’t included any proprietary and non-free software.
In other word, we can say gNewSense to be composed entirely of free software.
Free software is a matter of the users’ freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software.
It is built by people across the globe who work together as a community and sponsored by the FSF (Free software foundation).
There is no activity from the project for past few years due to lack of resources and less popularity.
Sam Geeraerts gNewSense Maintainer has announced on 23rd Jul, 2019 that he decided to step down his role, after consideration of many things.
Due to some reason, he couldn’t able to give the attention on this. Hence, he apologizes to current users and those anticipating a new release.
At the same time, he taken this opportunity to thank everyone who have contributed to gNewSense.
He is planning to keep the repositories and other infrastructure running for a while.
He clearly told that he is not going to take the lead role anymore and invites interested parties to step forward to take over the distribution.
