Linux Lite 4.6 Has Been Officially Released, and it Comes With Several Changes


Jerry Besancon has announced a new version of Linux Lite 4.6, which is based on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS.

This is the fourth release of the Linux Lite 4.x series. But it is not shipped by default with the HWE (Hardware Operating) Linux 5.0 kernel.

At the same time, users are allowed to install a variety of custom kernels from versions 3.13 to 5.2.

There are many changes to this release, and more details below.

The Linux Lite Welcome Screen allows us to easily select a light or dark theme.

Also, it comes with new keyboard and number lock info guide.

The Help Guide receives a batch replacement tutorial, USB Persistence Tutorial Included. Updated Lite Sources with comment about Linux Lite repos only.

The CPU Performance Mode plugin is included as an option in the “xfce4-cpufreq-plugin” tray. You can select it by right clicking on Taskbar -> Panel -> Add New Items -> CPU Frequency Monitor. Right click on it and move it to where you want it.

The Papyrus Icon theme has been updated to the latest release with the addition of new wallpapers.

How to upgrade from Linux Lite 4.x to 4.6

Follow the steps below to upgrade from Linux Light 4.x to 4.6.

Install an available updates: Menu –> Favorites –> Install Updates (you must reboot if asked to, otherwise continue to the next step).

After the upgrade, check the Light Update Package version, which should be the latest version.

$ apt policy lite-upgrade-series4

Installed: 4.0-0040-linuxlite
Candidate: 4.0-0040-linuxlite

Create a backup: Menu –> System –> Timeshift.

Perform the upgrade: Menu –> Settings –> Lite Upgrade.

Finally “Reboot” the system to access the latest version.

Make a note of it, There is no upgrade path to or from Beta or RC releases.
Also, There is no upgrade path from Series 2 or 3 ( 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 | 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6, 3.8 ) to Series 4.
