PCLinuxOS 2019.09 Updated Installation Media Released


The PCLinuxOS project has announced the release of updated installation media for PCLinuxOS.

This release carries the version number 2019.09 and has a fully updated system until September 15, 2019.

The simple update notifier has been reworked and it will notify system updates. Also, you can update from the applet using apt-get.

Added small improvements to live media startup scripts.

Virtual Box Testing Media is also included in the installation media, allowing users to quickly test an ISO on the fly without creating a permanent VM in the virtual box.

It provides KDE Plasma, MATE and Xfce desktop environments.

KDE versions have been updated as follows, Plasma Desktop 5.16.5, Plasma Applications 19.08.1 and Plasma Frameworks 5.62.

For the Mate desktop, all applications and libraries were updated to their most recent stable version from the previous release.

For Xfce Desktop, it uses the Whisker menu by default. A login sound was added and the applications were updated along with some minor bug fixes.

Added kernel 5.2.15, Include the Nvidia 430.50 driver, and Pulseaudio 13.0

How to update to the latest PCLinuxOS version:

Update your existing software to the latest available version using the following commands.

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade

Next, run the distribution upgrade command as follows.

$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the new kernel is installed, you may need to restart the system. If so, run the following command.

$ sudo shutdown -r now
